Originally released in 1989 as a maxi-single vinyl, Almighty's debut release was their cover of the Limahl classic "Never Ending Story" with Miriam Stockley on vocals on the original 1989 release recording under the name that we all know and love, Obsession. The single was originally produced by the following Almighty Associates at the time: Martyn Norris, Ian Anthony Stephens, Gemini Jones, and Mark Lusardi. The single became such a huge hit for Almighty that they later re-released the single in 1991 with a different vocalist from the old 80s band Hot Gossip, Amanda Abs and a few additional mixes. When released back in 1989, not only did the single launch Obsession as a studio project, it also launched Martyn Norris's label Almighty Records. Hope this info helps as I actually have an ORIGINAL vinyl copy of the 1989 release that helped put Almighty on the Dance Music map. I AM NOT AT LIBERTY TO SAY THE NAME OF THE MAN WHO HELPED ME FIND THIS VINYL AND IT IS ONE OF THE FEW REMAINING COPIES IN THE WORLD!!!! Interesting side note about the vinyl sticker information, unlike in Almighty's later years, the sleeve gives the EXACT location of where Almighty was when this was released. Obviously that location is no longer in existence and would be pointless to contact :D

The '89 vocal was by Amanda Abbs and NOT Miriam Stockley....
IAN ANTHONY STEPHENS was not invollved in anyway....
the person you're thinking of is IAN GANT.

I know it's a little too late, but thank you for answering this. I was curious about this little bit of trivia :)

What label is that then? Is it the black label with the man beating the kettle drum?

I think 1993.
The Cookie Mix (just like the PROPHET Mix of "Can You Feel It") sounds like it was based on the riff of "The Key, The Secret", a very popular tune of that period.

Having said that, maybe it was based on "Hell's Party", so it could be 1992 as well :o

Never Ending Story mixes query

by Euro NRG » Fri Sep 26, 2008 12:06 am

Hey, could anyone tell me on which years were the different mixes of Obsession's 'Never ending story'?

I know most of them were produced in 1990 (1st Chapter, Original vibe, Mighty), but how about the Transensual, Definitive, Pop'd up, Miriam's anthem & nrgetically executed mixes?

Any info much appreciated.

This has been thoroughly discussed a few months ago so you can find your answer in the forum archives :P
