Hi, all...

I've worked hard to gather info about the Almighty/Dataluxe remixes of Savage Garden's Affirmation. Most of the mixes are the well known 8:07/8:22 length releases, and the various ones on the Savage Garden TTMAB/Affa/Hold Me promo. I'm looking for how they compare to the promo only releases which I hear were longer. Can anyone add to, confirm, or contradict any of the following information?
Info:

Pressed in very limited quantities, this promo single appears to have been an attempt to market Almighty Associates and Dataluxe (two aliases for the same remixing group) to the US. The "Dataluxe Mix" was originally produced as an Almighty remix for release in the UK, where Almighty had been steadily gaining success with their remixing style, including remixes of "To The Moon And Back." Because of it's "big room" sound, this mix was deemed "too American" for the UK market, so the mix was not chosen for commercial use. Almighty Associates therefore chose to direct the release at the US market instead, and reformed as Dataluxe for this purpose. Due to this change, the release appears to have been rushed.

The actual title of the CD is "Savage Garden - Affirmation UK Remixes"

Three people who actually own copies have discussed them on the EZBoard Pop Remixes forum, and the old Almighty Records forum and have said the following:

Re: Dataluxe unreleased mixes...

I am one who got this cd-r promo.....
times 9:06 Almighty mix
11:40 Dataluxe mix
it is on a mitsui thermal cd-r, no catalog number.
CD has "transferred via ISDN" on it, "Source Date: May 26, 2000", and Columbia May 30, 2000
I have not compared the mixes side by side with the Bangin' Mix, but the mix seems the same, just running at a slower BPM, the same with the Almighty mix---
actually, I like the slower BPM, works better for the song IMHO.
cheers........................

beat136:

[i]t is an official promo, a printed CDr acetate, th[at] says "Savage Garden - Affirmation UK Remixes"

One difference of note: the almighty mix on this promo is actually 9:06 in length compared to 8:04 on the UK release (the version actually seems to run at a lower BPM than the UK release) And the Dataluxe mix is 11:40--Sheila Blige mentioned before that the UK did not use this mix because it was too "American" sounding. I must say in this case they were right, it has a very "american" big room sound--but it is a very good mix!!!

Re: Regarding the new Affirmation mixes

[M]y 12" promo copy features the Almighty Affirmative mix, and the Dataluxe mix.

End of info.

No verification right now about whether the tracks actually play at these slower beat-per-minute rates, or whether this is just info printed on the CD/12". I also have an extremely low resolution scan of the CD from an expired eBay auction.

Anyone who might actually have this promo CD-R, please contact me. If anyone knows the track timings for sure, that would be helpful, as well as differences from the Bangin'/Anthem mixes, and any catalogue number that might be printed on the 12" release with the Dataluxe mix.

Thank you all!

Edited the subject line to include Dataluxe... and posting a reply so maybe now those in the know will pay attention! I ordinarily dislike people who just bump a post, but from what I can tell, no one's looking at this seriously. I'd really like to know - collector's all, aren't we?

Thanks in advance to anyone caring to share their knoweledge.

One bit of news: an official Almighty insider named Helen has responded to my emailed query about these tracks, saying:

"Hi Phil

Thanks for your email. I have passed this onto a colleague and we
will look into this and get back to you as soon as we can.

Kind Regards"

I'm hoping to get some more confirmation of the track timings and BPM. More updates as I get them.

Please feel free to post any additional info you may have about these mixes, I'd really appreciate the help.

I would really appreciate it if those in the know would reply to this thread - isn't discussion the point of any forum? Rolling Eyes I don't want to just be talking to myself and I'm *very* interested to know more about these mixes. Cool

Latest bits of info (very little):

mso10 replied to another post of mine saying:

"I was the "wilson23" you were searching for recently (that was one of my aliases on the old site), and, just so you don't keep chasing me - I'm afraid it isn't for sale, and I don't know where you can find another like it!"

ms010, if you read this, I'd be happy just to get confirmation of the track timings as well as any possible catalogue information. I don't wish to bother you, simply to get your knowledge. I also heard back from the Almighty team via email, but Lynn said only:

"I'm afraid we do not have access to the times here. Best of luck with your search though."

Anyone with any information about these two rare promos, please contact me at pjcohen@graffiti.net or reply to this thread. Thanks in advance!

Celine,

Thanks for having the moxie to reply! I appreciate it. Unfortunately, I already tried that email address - it's how I got in touch with Helen and Lynn of the Almighty Team. Let me know if you can think of anything further.
